Born in the year of the third COP (1997), I am a child of the contemporary climate emergency. My young adulthood is unfolding through this decade of change. It is one of the most significant decades in human history.
I have been documenting and organising in the youth climate movement since 2019. My documentation began in New York, where I was a student, and migrated online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past 3-4 years, I have connected with young people around the world who are fighting for climate justice.
Most recently, we took the streets inside and outside COP26 in Glasgow. We organised and showed up to bring our voices to one of the core decision-making platforms that exists around our future. I have been able to build trust and friendship between myself, my photography and the young activists. I have been able to capture their moments from within, capturing the genuine presence of climate leaders. This is a movement composed of young leaders from all corners of the world, and that is how it should be framed.
Our lack of years of experience in positions of power may block our meaningful access to spaces of negotiation, but this is our future and our movement is powerful.
